A quality sofa or chair is built like this: The entire wood frame is engineered as one piece with puzzle like joinery. It is assembled in a way that the legs are part of the frame. The back is arched to an angle for comfort. The seats start with coil spring construction which gives each seat approximately 12 coils that are 8 inches high. These are tied together at eight different points and supported by metal straps across the base of the sofa holding every coil in place. It is almost impossible to alter the comfort of the sofa during its entire life span. We can say that almost every sofa Bakers sells is replaced only when the fabric is worn out.

An inexpensive sofa or chair is built like this: A box is constructed and feet are screwed in. A back and arm is added with strap on sinuous springs across the deck. Then, a little padding is added and it is covered with inexpensive fabric. By construction, the weakest points are the seat and arms. They weaken with time. Plus, you rely on the padding for comfort - which compacts over time. In a matter of a few years, your sofa or chair is ready for replacement.

Furthermore, consumers cannot be sure what imported furniture is made of or finished with. From toxic chemicals to lead based paint, imported furniture has few government restrictions.
